
I believe that good research is built on empathy, precision, and collaboration. Whether I am collecting data at an early psychosis clinic, building a web-based API to capture Fitbit metrics, or advocating for health equity in Nova Scotia, my goal remains the same: to translate evidence into meaningful, compassionate care.
I am S M Kawser Zafor Prince, a physician-turned-researcher currently pursuing my PhD in Health at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. My journey began in Bangladesh, where I earned my MBBS (equivalent to MD) from the University of Dhaka and later an MPH from Atish Dipankar University. In 2025, I completed my MSc in Epidemiology and Applied Health Research at Dalhousie, where I now continue my doctoral studies.
My work sits at the intersection of clinical medicine, epidemiology, and digital health innovation. I have coordinated multi-site studies, supported the provincial rollout of Nova Scotia's unified Clinical Information System (OPOR), and developed digital phenotyping tools to predict psychosis episodes using wearable sensor data. I am deeply committed to health equity, mental health advocacy, and inclusive research practices that center the voices of marginalized communities.
Growing up in Bangladesh and now living in Canada, I have witnessed firsthand how structural inequities shape health outcomes. This fuels my passion for research that does not just describe disparities but actively works to dismantle them. My master's thesis compared perceived and unmet mental health needs among LGB and heterosexual individuals in Canada โ a project that reinforced my belief in the power of intersectional, equity-centered research.
I am equally passionate about digital health transformation. From building APIs to collect remote Fitbit data to supporting the OPOR clinical system rollout across Nova Scotia, I see technology as a bridge โ not a barrier โ to better, more accessible care.
When I am not in the lab or at a clinic, you will find me mentoring graduate students through Dalhousie's Together@Dal program, reviewing manuscripts as an editorial board member, or advocating for student rights on the Student Appeals Committee. I also enjoy photography, running a tech YouTube channel (PKTechTipsBD), and exploring the beautiful coastlines of Nova Scotia.
